New Deviance DIRECTV Commercial

I just saw this commercial tonight and thought it would be an interesting example of social deviance in the media with the use of "undesirables" as a point to drop cable and buy DIRECTV. It is also a perfect example of Sutherland and Cressey's Differential Association Theory; showing that deviance can be a socially learned behavior, in this case from her father.

  1. Woooooow. This is PERFECT for this class. In 30 seconds we learned about all sorts of deviant behaviors and people. Do you think it was purposeful to have a rebel daughter instead of a son? You also nailed it on the theory--they are relying on Differential Association as the premise of the joke. Great find!
